28/07/2024

The World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), in collaboration with the Reform Secretariat at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC), lately concluded a joint mission from July 21 to 25, 2024. This mission represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the Transparent, Inclusive, and Climate Responsive Investment in Jordan - Program for Results.

The mission aimed to oversee and evaluate the program's progress, addressing critical milestones and identifying challenges. The mission engaged in in-depth discussions with MoPIC and other critical stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, the Ministry of Investment, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, and the Ministry of Environment. Additionally, representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Central Bank of Jordan, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Department of Statistics participated.

The mission concentrated on several key areas including, capacity building at the Program Management Unit (Reform Secretariat), staffing, monitoring and evaluation, stakeholder engagement, coordination among implementing agencies, grievance redress mechanisms, environmental and social safeguards, and fiduciary systems. The goal was to assess accomplished goals, identify challenges and provide doable actions to enhance the program's effectiveness.

The mission effectively outlined significant accomplishments and areas for improvement, setting a clear trajectory for advancing the investment program. An Aide Memoire documenting findings and agreed-upon actions will ensure sustained progress.

Since its inception in August 2021, the program has aimed to stimulate public and private investment in Jordan, aiding recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It supports Jordan’s economic recovery by focusing on green opportunities and creating job opportunities for youth and women. Significant progress has been made towards achieving the program’s development objectives and intermediate result indicators.

This collaborative endeavour underscores the commitment to fostering transparent, inclusive, and climate-responsive investments, contributing to sustainable development in Jordan.
