In a significant step toward enhancing food safety and quality in Jordan, the Reform Secretariat at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, hosted the inaugural focus group discussions for the National Traceability System for Agri-Food Products (NTSAP) last week. Supported by the Jordan Growth MDTF and organized in cooperation with the implementing consulting firm, this three-day session convened over 60 stakeholders from key sectors, including vegetables (tomatoes), fruits (dates), poultry, and live meat (sheep).
Participants explored the project’s five-phase implementation plan, addressing technical standards, food safety, and regulatory frameworks. Discussions examined the entire supply chain—from sampling and testing to storage and transportation—emphasizing compliance with international food safety standards.
The sessions also highlighted regulatory frameworks, defined inspection roles across ministries, and identified challenges, leading to actionable recommendations for effective implementation.
These sessions will continue periodically, with workshops ensuring transparency and share progress with stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organizations. The project aims to ensure compliance with international food safety standards while strengthening Jordan’s competitiveness in global export markets.
