In line with Jordan's Public Procurement Roadmap for 2023-2025, a specialized workshop on professionalizing public procurement was held in Amman on February 19-20, 2025. This event was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the World Bank, funded by the Jordan Growth Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
H.E. the Minister of Local Administration and Chairman of the Public Procurement Policy Committee opened the workshop, with the presence of the World Bank's Regional Procurement Manager for the Middle East and North Africa. Active participation came from key governmental bodies, including the Government Tenders Department, the Government Procurement Department, and the Procurement Policy Unit at the Prime Ministry.
Notably, esteemed academic institutions and governmental bodies contributed to the discussions, such as the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions, the Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission, the University of Jordan, and the German Jordanian University. The focus was on assessing the current state of public procurement, formulating a strategy for its advancement, and developing a skilled workforce capable of adapting to market dynamics and ensuring long-term sustainability.
Participants deliberated on the institutional framework that will define the professionalization strategy for public procurement, alongside an implementation plan. This initiative underscores Jordan's commitment to enhancing the professionalism of the public procurement sector, aligning with economic reforms and the Public Sector Modernization Roadmap.
