The Reform Secretariat, through the Jordan Growth Multi-Donor Trust Fund, is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture in developing a National Traceability System for Agri-food Products. An initial meeting to kick off this project was held on Sunday, under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Eng. Khaled Henefat, with the presence of Secretary-General, Eng. Mohammad Al-Hiyari.
Minister Henefat emphasized the significance of this project in enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian agricultural exports in international markets, increasing export rates, and opening new markets. He noted that the implementation of the National Traceability System for Agri-food Products will ensure the production of healthy, high-quality agricultural products that meet the requirements and standards of importing countries.
The project will involve the assessment, design, and proposal of a comprehensive implementation plan for a technically robust National Traceability System for agri-food products. This system aims to enhance food safety, meet essential export requirements, and integrate advanced quality certification systems. The tracking model to be implemented will follow a "one step forward, one step backward" approach, in line with international best practices for ensuring food safety and traceability.
The expected impact of this project is to expand and optimize global markets for Jordanian agri-food products, reinforcing Jordan's position as a key exporter in this sector.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Agriculture has issued the Agri-food Products Traceability Regulations No. (Z/1) for 2024, which apply to agricultural products intended for export at all stages of the agricultural production chain.
